Art for Dignity and Justice

I had the great privilege to create a piece on behalf of the Collier County Neighborhood Stories Project for the October 5th National Day of Action March for Dignity and Justice! The piece is currently featured on Culture Strike and Not1MoreDeportation. We, as CCNSP, are very humbled to be able be part of such a pivotal moment for our communities and we will continue demanding dignity and justice for as long as it takes! We hope to see you all out on October 5th, too!

Feel free to share the graphic widely through your social networks! Please, credit Rommy Torrico and link back to collierstoriesmatter.org or blog.collierstoriesmatter.org. We hope to get prints soon so if you’re interested, feel free to email us with your name and the quantity so that we have an idea of how many we will need to order. Send all inquires to rommy@collierstoriesmatter.org

We’ve been working on a new art campaign, Alza Tu Voz, to showcase the the strength and resistance of our community! Starting next week, we will have these posters available for sale at our trainings in 11″x14″ format (16″ x 20″ available upon request- contact rommy@collierstoriesmatter.org ). With the earnings, we will be creating an emergency bond fund to help our community in southwest Florida with this ongoing struggle.

Call to Action: Do you like to doodle or paint? Are you design-savvy on Photoshop or Illustrator? Are you always snapping photos? Have you always been drawn to art? Then you’re who we’ve been looking for! This is a call to action for creative individuals in the community (Collier, Lee and Hendry counties only) to volunteer their work in hopes of creating an online gallery and raising collective consciousness.  Every artist will be credited for their work and will have their work showcased online, at our trainings in southwest Florida and at summits throughout the state.

What we’re looking for: We want images that show opposition to the unjust deportations of individuals in our community and that also show hope for a new future by fighting back.

Prize: $200 in cash and the chance to print your posters and showcase them throughout the state. There are many organizations that are looking for cool designs for these fights!

Deadline: October 1st, 2012

Specifications: All work should be your own original work and must be replicable (or small enough to scan- original paintings limited to 12″x16″). All digital work must be submitted in either jpeg or pdf formats with resolution of 300dpi and sized to  8.5 x11, 11×14, 16×20 or 18×24 (depending on what fits your piece best).

Email your piece along with its title, a few sentences on what or who inspired you to create your piece, your name (first name is all we require or you can remain anonymous), your age and your telephone number or email address.
